This type of dog has a lovely temperament, so you will not have a hard time taking care of them. If you have any apprehension about this breed, then let’s all talk about it and more.

What is an American Bully?

What is an American Bully? Is it a Pitbull? Is it an aggressive dog?

The American Bully is not a Pitbull. Different breeds fall under the Pitbull type. Some of them are American Pitbull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and American Bully. Since the American Bully is under the Pitbull category, many people get confused and think it is a Pitbull.

The American Bully breed is a mixture of two different breeds under the Pitbull type. They are the American Pitbull Terrier and American Staffordshire terriers. The American Bully is also bulkier compared to other Pitbull species. They also have a large head like other Pitbulls but have short legs. An adult American Bull can measure up to 20 inches while its weight can go as much as 120 lbs.

For its temperament, the American Bully is no different from other dogs you have, or you have seen. Although they may look scary initially, they are excellent companions since they are gentle and patient creatures.

Even if you have children, you will not have a problem with them. They will even take care of your children once they get comfortable with your family members.

Tips For Getting an American Bully

If you are interested in getting an American Bully, there are other things you must know about them and their shared history with other bully breeds.

1. Know The Different Types of an American Bully

An American Bully has four different sizes: the XL, standard, classic, and pocket. All of them have the same body built, and proportion and the only difference is the height.

  • For XL or extra large male Bully, they can grow up to 20 to 23 inches, while females can grow between 19 to 22 inches.
  • A standard male Bully can grow up to 17 to 20 inches in height while females can grow between 16 to 19 inches.
  • The classic Bully actually has the same size as the standard, but they have smaller frames, and they also look less muscular.
  • The pocket Bullies are the smallest; males can have a height of 14 to 17 inches while females range between 13 to 16 inches.

2. Estimate How Expensive an American Bully Is

You must also know that the American Bully is a new breed developed in the ’80s. It got recognized in 2004 by ABKC and in 2013 by UKC (United Kennel Club). Since it is a new breed and many people like them, getting puppies with this breed is expensive. You can get an American Bully puppy for $2000 up to $7000.

3. The American Bully Lifespan and Health

If you properly take care of them, this type of dog can live for up to 13 years. Just make sure that you check their health regularly and also let them do exercise. An American Bully has lots of energy in their body. That is why you need to let them have enough training exercises, preventing them from being destructive.

4. Training

In training this type of dog, you will not have a problem since they love to please everybody, especially their owners. Like other dogs, you need to teach them commands using treats so they will behave properly. In this way, all of you in the family will be happy, and the dog will not have any menacing behavior. It will also strengthen your bond with your American Bully.

5. Grooming

Grooming your American Bully is easy since they have short, smooth fur. If you are not fond of always grooming their pet and don’t want to pay for it, then this is good news for you. Since they have short fur, you don’t need to put a lot of time grooming them. You merely need to bathe and brush them regularly, and they are good to go.

Please keep in mind that since they have short fur, they are susceptible to cold in winter. In winter, bundle them up with jackets to keep them warm.

Getting Your Own American Bully Dog

If you want to get an American Bully dog, you must first know why you need it. Is it for competition, or do you want them as a pet? You should understand why you are getting them so you can choose the right Bully for you. After that, you can now select which size you want to have.

Once you have chosen, you need to go to a breeder. Make sure that the breeder you will get is excellent and legit. They should also be affiliated with ABKC or UKC. In this way, you can be assured that you will not have any problem getting the dog.

Ensure that you have everything needed by the dog before you get it from the breeder. If everything is finalized in your home and with the breeder, you can now bring the dog home.

An American Bully is a lovely dog to have. They are loveable, patient, and gentle, so you will not have a problem with them. Aside from that, they are also good with kids and even with strangers. You will also not have any trouble grooming them. You only have to ensure to check their health regularly and give their regular dose of exercise, and they are good to go.
